Original era manufacture. Standard M1889 Infantry Officers degen, but with a silver, rather than a gilded finish.Chromed steel blade measuring 31.5 inches in length, running fairly straight, with a slight bend to the left about 4 inches from the tip. A light edge has been put on the blade for service use, but no great nicks or corrosion issues to report. On the obverse ricasso is the makers logo for the firm of Carl Kiser & Co.Standard M1889 guard but with a silver finish rather than gilt. The guard is made of brass but covered entirely in a silver/nickel wash. Fishskin wrapped grip with is bound with single strand wire. Set into the obverse grip is a very large Wilhelm II cypher of gilded alloy. White painted leather finger loop is amazingly intact.Chrome or nickel finished steel scabbard, with light surface corrosion, and a slight bend to the body about the same spot as in the blade.Overall, this sword looks to have been kept in a damp location, as verdigris staining can be seen on the guard surface, and a peppering of surface corrosion on the scabbard. Guard is a little loose, but its old. Help me out here Dale, what is the silver guard all about...
