Original era manufacture. Polished steel blade measuring 32 inches in length, with the royal cypher of King Wilhelm II of Wurttemberg (not Kaiser Wilhelm) 14 on the spine. The blade is straight, and made for field service not dress. It shows scattered spotting from age and wear, with a few very shallow nicks in its cutting edge. Heavy cast brass guard and pommel with the Wurttemberg coat of arms on the guard and King Karl's cypher on the pommel. Fishskin wrapped grip bound with triple strand wire, tinytouch of wear to the grip covering. Dent free, blue steel finished scabbard with scattered light surface corrosion and staining. At the beginning of WWI in 1914, German Infantry officers went into the field carrying swords, as much of a badge of rank as a weapon.
