Original era manufacture. A very rare medal, struck to honor the service of the troops of Hamburg, Lubeck and Bremen for their service during the wars against Napoleon I.The Hanseatic cities were occupied by Napoleon until liberation by the Allies in 1813. At that time four infantry battalions were raised, two from Hamburg, and one each from Lubeck and Bremen, totaling over 1700 men. This medal was struck for this service in gold and silver. The gold examples were very few, some sources state only 12, while between 800-1000 silver medals were awarded. Our example measures roughly 35 mm, with an intricate design on the obverse, and the dedication on the reverse. No ribbon, but it was done in red and white, evenly divided in halves. Pleasing silver patina overall.
