Original era manufacture. A very fine example of a Nurnberg style Black/White Morion helmet as worn by city guards and militia about 400 years ago.Evidently the Fleur de Lys emblem on each side of the helmet is representative of the Holy Roman Empire, and overall the helmet exhibits a high degree of expertise in its manufacture, but you can certainly tell it was hand made. Around the lower edge of the helmet body are 10 decorative brass bosses, five to a side, with a decorative edging design on the top of the comb and helmet rim.No liner remains, but the interior has a very nice old steel patina, with the black painted finish being a more modern addition but has nicely aged and looks great. This is a wonderful old helmet, and was purchased here in Arizona as part of a collection of ancient arms and accoutrements which came our way.
