Original era manufacture. The Faschinenmesser (Fascine Knife) saw a long and useful service with the German Armies, with several different models in used by the troops of the assorted Kingdoms. This model has been referred to as the pattern 1840 and bears markings from the Kingdom of Saxony. These weapons were worn on the belts of Infantrymen up through the Franco-Prussian War and even into WWI by Artillerymen. Our example has a 19 inch, heavy steel blade made by PDL. The blade is unsharpened with a salt-pepper patina with a few spots of pitting and cleaned corrosion. Cast brass guard and grip with a crown on the backstrap of the grip below the pommel. Unit markings for the Saxon 104 regiment can be seen on the guard. The scabbard is of black leather with a brass throat and tip. The leather stitching is sound and the leather body is soft. Stamped into the scabbard throat are the unit markings for the Saxon 106 regiment.
