Original era manufacture. At the end of WWII, the German economy was devastated, her cities lay in ruins, her transportation system was destroyed and raw materials for the production of even the basic needs for the populace were not to be found. Any former Wehrmacht equipment or clothing which could be transformed into something useful for civilian use was eagerly sought after. Steel helmets were converted into pots and colanders, gasmask cans into lunch pails and milk pitchers anything which could help the destitute civilian population was used. These little shoes which we offer here, are another such example of the creativity displayed in turning swords into plowshares. They were made for a young child, using Luftwaffe enlisted Signals piped shoulder straps as a heel lining, splinter pattern camouflage material for the covering of the soles, and two color uniform binding material for the bodies and seam edging. They are in unused condition and are really unbelievably clever in construction. We were able to purchase a very few pair of these little shoes, never seen the like before. One pair left, 5/6/17
