Original era manufacture. Known as a Faschinenmesser and used by ALL branches of the Prussian Army, not just the Artillery as often supposed. I have a great interest in these old weapons and find little information about them. I have seen them referenced in various sources using different model designations. However in Paul Pietsch,s book, Formations und Uniformierungsgeschichte des preussischen Heeres 1808-1914 he describes it as an 1848 pattern. One last personal comment, thus far, this pattern was the most difficult example of assorted Faschinenmesser for me to find for our own collection. 19 inch polished steel blade with a crown FW 55 (1855) on the spine. Scattered spots of graying and cleaned corrosion. Cast brass hilt with regimental markings on the guard, 30.R.8.20 (Infantry Regt. Graf Werder, (4.Rheinisches) Nr.30, raised in 1812) and an additional crown FW 55 proof. Brass mounted leather scabbard with similar markings to the guard, just a bit difficult to read. The scabbard has shrunk slightly leaving a 1/4 inch gap between throat and guard. Nice old weapon.
