Original era manufacture. A scarce 1888 pattern leather ammunition pouch, designed to increase the soldiers ammunition capacity to 25 rounds, instead of 15 of the 1887 pattern. The pouch proved to be awkward and bulky in use, especially when firing from the prone position. Overall the pouch is quite sound, showing normal age and wear. Dated and unit marked inside the lid. Scarce pouch, one of the few we've ever owned.
