Original era manufacture. First pattern bayonet with a one piece wooden grip. Erfurt made blade with a Crown W 01 proof on the spine. The blade is straight with an even steel/gray patina to the surface. Matching unit marks on the crossguard and scabbard throat, 3.J.E.2.88. Dark steel patina to the pommel and guard. Intact leather scabbard with a dark steel patina throat and tip. Leather has shrunk with age and now closes to within 5mm of the bottom of the guard.
