Original era manufacture. Introduced in 1868, and worn by the Bavarian Army until the adoption of the Prussian pattern pickelhaube in 1886.Officers quality helmet with a black bearskin comb, highly polished leather body, and nicely gilded metal trim. The interior displays a blue silk lining with a widecalfskin leather sweatband with a scalloped edge.The Raupenhelm displays a few scuffs to theits surface, the frontvisor stitching has come loose, and the rear of the helmet, while very pliable, is pinched a bit. This is easily remedied with the insertion of padding or a display head.A very, very presentable example in sound condition for its age.
