Original era manufacture. A rather large, extremely well made, deluxe pattern miniature sword. Perhaps its intended purpose was as a letter opener, however it measures just under 12 inches in length, making it rather large for the mundane purpose of opening the envelope holding the monthly water bill. The pattern of the sword is similar to the one the MAX SHOW used in its advertising for many years. On each side of the blade are blued panels, with a rather involved gilded letter text in German, which I believe extols the virtues of German craftsmanship and dedication, but our Bing Translator, refused to spit-out anything at all which made sense, so that is my best guess. Gilded brass guard and hilt, chromed steel scabbard, with two brass suspension rings and a brass chape. The only flaw I can mention in this otherwise wonderful old item, is that there is a slight bend near the tip and subsequent minor loss of surface plating.
