Original period manufacture. Fairly sound old reservist canteen purchased by a soldier (or his family) who served in IR 143 during the years 1892-94 in Strassburg. The porcelain body of the canteen is sound and quite colorful, about the worst feature is that the cloth shoulder strap is worn and frayed. The aluminum jigger style cap may be a replacement from a canteen sold after WWI as it has a different patina to the metal body covering.
