Original era manufacture. An unusual pattern sword with brass fittings and a clip point blade. Unit marked on the guard 3.A.F.2.B.2. (3rd Foot Artillery, 2nd Battery, 2nd weapon) and issue proofed on the spine crown W 88 (1888, the year of the three Kaisers). The polished steel blade is quite clean and measures 33 inches in length. The brass guard has crossed cannons on one langet with the other being plain. It is slightly bent from the grip ferrule. Sharkskin wrapped grip with double strand binding. The brass rod which secures the backstrap to the grip is missing, however it is not loose. Single brass carrying ring on the steel scabbard but with two brass bands. The scabbard surface shows service denting and some light cleaned corrosion but is otherwise sound. Neat old sword.
