Original era manufacture. A 1911 dated, and regimentally marked, enlisted Pickelhaube of 1st Nassau Infantry Regiment Nr 87, displaying the bandeau"La Belle Alliance" on its wappen, an honor first authorized in 1897.This bandeau was unique in the German army, and was torecognize the service of the 1st Nassau during the Napoleonic Wars. The helmet is basically complete,showing its 105 year old age, but is sound and very displayable. Dark brass patina to the gilded metal portions of thehelmet. Both visors aretightly stitched to the body of the helmet. The front visor has shrunk insize a bit and pulled away slightlyfrom the visor trim. A previous owner used a simple, yet effective repair, in that two small holes were drilled in the visor and heavy cotton thread was passed through the holes keeping the front visor trim,in place.Very dry, but original and unbroken leather chinstrap with both adjusting buckles are present. National and Prussian original cockades are in place. No extra holes behind the wappen, with leather wedgesholding the wappen in place. Inkstamped on the underside of the rear visor is R87 1911.The liner is in poor condition, showing flaking and missing portions on both sides. What leather remains is still very pliable.An honest old helmet which no doubt saw service during the opening months of WWI. From our own collection.
