Original era manufacture. Porcelain body & top, hand decorated exterior with a lithopane bottom. This stein is rather unusual in that the top is of porcelain and shaped like a nosecap of an artillery shell. It once belonged to a driver of the 1st Battery, 8th Bavarian FA Regiment and honors his service from 1906-1908. The painted exterior shows wear and there is a sizable chip and crack in the rim of the stein, fortunately most of this is covered by the top. In addition, the lithopane has been pierced. This was a practice done when the soldier passed so no one else could drink from it. We have an Ulan stein in our collection which has been pierced in a similar fashion. On a brighter note, someone has repaired the bottom so you can now enjoy your favorite beverage from this old stein if you like. Great old stein for display.
