Original era manufacture. A very nice example of a pre WWI production S98 bayonet, with double unit markings to the Lifeguard regiment of the Kingdom of Saxony, IR100.Polished steel quillback blade made by Simson & Co, Suhl, with a crown proof and '03 date at the base of the spine. No issues to report, sharp point, with light staining from age and use on the blade surface. Steel patina surface to the guard and pommel, sound original grips displaying light marring from service use. Unit marked on the guard, 100. R. 2. 78.The scabbard is very nice and fits the blade properly, the stitching is sound, with a steel patina finish to the chape and throat. On the reverse of the scabbard throat matching unit markings to the guard can be seen. Surface denting to the chape.Comes with a 1917 dated Turkish pattern frog in sound condition.
