Original era manufacture. A well made hat worn by German university students prior to WWI. Academic fencing was a common practice where it was encouraged by society for the young man to earn his facial scars, which proved his bravery in taking the blow. Green wool pillbox hat with silver wire trim, brown velvet sweatband and a soiled yellow silk lining. Of interest is the nice quality silver shield stitched to the lining of the hat. It appears to bear the names of two individuals, perhaps a gift from one to another. Normal age and wear, no damage.
