Original era manufacture. An issue quality hat which displays the original owners name and issue date of 25-1-28 on its black cotton interior. Dark blue wool top which shows scattered mothing and crazing to the wool surface. Fortunately, being of a dark color, the mothing does not stand out. Red cotton embroidered North Sea Fleet property markings stitched into the lining.Black silk cap tally which bears the embroidered ships name, "Linenschiff Schleswig Holstein", in toned gold lettering. The embroidery is sound, the tails are weak however, one likely will break away at some point unless backed with a similar material. Single Reichs cockade at the top front of the hat. The battleship Schleswig-Holstein was launched in 1906, serving with the Imperial Navy throughout WWI, including the Battle of Jutland in 1916.She was one of the few capital ships allowed to remain in service at the end of the war, continuing as the Fleet Flagship after 1926. During WWII, she fired the opening shots at Polish positions on September 1st 1939. She participated in the operations during the take over of Denmark, then being relegated to duties as a training ship. Damaged by the RAF late in the war, she was scuttled, and ended her days as a target ship for the Soviet Navy.
