Original period photography. Sepia image of an armed sailor, likely taken on board ship. I believe the lettering on his cap tally reads SMS LEIPZIG, a Bremen class cruiser launched in 1905, and sunk with nearly all hands in 1915. Standing at the position of attention, holding his 71/84 rifle in his right hand. Affixed to the barrel, is a M1871 Jager pattern bayonet, the 5 rivets securing the grip plates can be clearly seen under magnification.
