Original period manufacture. A large leather tschako of a pattern adopted in 1860 and worn during the Franco-Prussian War 1870-1871. This pattern was issued until the adoption of a smaller pattern shako in 1895. Our example retains its original gilded brass Prussian eaglewith a web of metal between the bottom of the eagles wing and top of its leg. Original leather chinstrap, original leather liner and a black/white field badge. There are period unit markings seen inside the shako's interior, red painted letter 2C 1 and something which looks to be 6 6. All of the proper fittings are to be found in this helmet including the swing-away brass ventilator at front. No extra holes behind the wappen with two stirrup-type screwnuts holding the eagle in place. Sound stitching for both front and rear visors, overall showing normal age and use. Thisis from our own collection.
