Original era manufacture.Certainly the largest pattern of the family of German Faschinenmesser, is this unique, and quite scarce Saxon example. Produced by Weyersberg, and adopted into service in 1880.The polished steel blade measures nearly 25 inches in length, with markings on both sides of the ricasso and on the blade spine as well. Very clean polished steel finish to the blade, factory sharpened edge, and no corrosion pittingvisible.S-shaped steel guard, with a ribbed grip of brown bakelite which is secured by three flush-groundsteel rivets, and a ribbed brass pommel. Leather bodied scabbard with intact seam stitching, and a brass mounted throat and chape. The unit numbers on the guard and scabbard throat do not match, and when the blade is fully inserted into the scabbard, there is a 3 mm gap between the guard and throat. We have an example of this patternFaschinenmesser in our own collection, thisone is only the 2nd example we have ever offered for sale.
