Original era manufacture.Certainly the largest pattern of the family of German Faschinenmesser, is this unique, and quite scarce Saxon example. Produced by Weyersberg, and adopted into service in 1880.The polished steel blade measures nearly 25 inches in length, with markings on both sides of the ricasso and on the blade spine as well. Steel patina finish to the blade, factory sharpened edge, and no corrosion pittingvisible.S-shaped steel guard, with a ribbed grip of brown bakelite which is secured by three flush-groundsteel rivets, and a ribbed brass pommel. Leather bodied scabbard with intact seam stitching, and a brass mounted throat and chape. This is a very futuristic looking weapon in my eyes, almost something that would feel right at home in one of the Lord of the Rings movie. Matching unit numbers on the guard and scabbard throat, 32 A. 2. 42. We have an example of this Faschinenmesser in our own collection, it is the only example we have ever offered for sale.
