Original era manufacture. Cavalry style sword with a large basket guard, fishskin wrapped grip with twisted wire binding. The blade measures 33.5 inches in length, with some scattered nail-catchers in the edge and evidence of shallow pitting from cleaned corrosion. The blade is straight and has a sharp point. The scabbard has a single carring ring and a few very shallow surface dents. A brown finish, which may be some kind of paint, is applied to both scabbard and guard. There is an interesting unit marking on the underside of the guard which I cannot decipher, 9.H.3.0.3, and a different marking on the scabbard throat T.A.XXI.10. which may be for a Telegraph unit for the 21st Army Corps. Other X'd out markings can be seen below this one. The sword finish matches itself so the blade and scabbard have been together for a long while.
