Original era manufacture. A steel construction short sword issued to foot troops of the Kingdom of Wurttemberg in the mid 19th Century. Measuring 18.5 inches in length, there is considerable staining to the polished steel blade, with scattered areas of old cleaned corrosion pitting. With similar condition issues to the steel guard and grip. The original black leather bodied scabbard is basically sound, but has shrunk a bit over the past 150 odd years and now no longer closes up to the bottom of the guard. Matching steel patina finish to the scabbard throat. These were used by German troops for nearly 100 years, even seeing service during WWI. This one looks as if it has been present for every one of those years.
