Original period manufacture. Standard issue 98 bayonet which has been shortened to a 9 inch blade length with a matching length leather bodied scabbard. Dark patina finish to the metal fittings and blade, sound leather stitching to the scabbard body. Sometimes these pattern bayonets are found with Navy markings, this example is unmarked. See pages 158-163 in the Lubbe-Nieman book for similar examples.
