German WWI Deluxe Silver Cutout Wound Badge Screwback Design

Original era manufacture. This very fine quality silver cut-out wound badge has been modified by its original owner from a pinback, to a screwback securing system.The pin hinge has been ground nearly flush with the top of the badge, and the catch transformed into a horizontal pin to keep the badge in position on the uniform. A silver screw post and brass hex nut were soldered onto the reverse of the helmet, and a very thin silver backing plate was added to finish the job. The obverse of the badge exhibits very fine detail, with a very pleasing silver patina. Likely jeweler done, just a wonderful old badge.
