Original period manufacture. White piped feldgrau strap with a red wool cypher, 111th Baden Infantry Regiment. During WWI the 111th Rgt first served with the 28th Infantry Division until 1917, when it was transferred to the 52nd Infantry Division. On the 28th of September 1918, second day of the Meuse-Argonne offensive. A very weakened 52nd entered the line near Exermont, where it engaged American forces from a number of units including the 1st and 32nd Infantry Divisions. The 52nd was driven back to Landres et St Georges, where it was withdrawn from the line about the 14th of October after suffering heavy losses, almost 600 prisoners alone.
