German WWI Hollywood Movie Prop Bayonet Knot

Original era manufacture. This one is a puzzler, it was part of a large collection of uniforms and equipment recently purchased by SMA. At first I didn't pay too much attention to it, but on close inspection it is made a little differently than the normally encountered bayonet knots of the era. The strap is of a herringbone weave cotton instead of wool and the stem has a stretch cotton material covering it instead of wool. We think this is something made for the Movies. Perhaps we saw it in All Quiet on the Western Front back in the 1930's. It shows age and wear and would look great for display. If we're wrong you've made a good bargain..
