Original era manufacture. Early style, small zinc square which measures 35x45mm and is pierced for a neckcord. Field recovered and lightly varnished for preservation. Just an additional comment, the first pattern German identity tags adopted prior to the Franco-Prussian War in 1870 were also rectangular in shape.
