German WWI Iron Cross 1st & 2nd Class Grouping, 7th Ulan Regiment 1918
This item is listed for historical interest only. It was listed on our site previously but has been sold and is no longer available for purchase.
Sold for: $450.00

Original era manufacture. A grouping of medals, documents and RPC postcards attesting to the service of Unteroffizier Schlink, 3rd Squadron, 7th Ulan Regiment, 86th Infantry Division in 1918. Magnetic center EK1 with a blue finish to the iron core. Spotting from minor corrosion on the iron surface, old uncleaned patina finish to the frame and ribbing. Very clean EK2 with near 100% finish on the iron core and a pleasing patina finish to the ribbing and frame. At the time of our purchase, the EK2 was residing in this period box. While there is not a cut-out for the cross itself in the ivory colored felt pad, you can see an imprint the EK has left over the years. Three RPC postcards one of which showing Ulan Schlink astride his horse. Two of the cards have been mailed, the third has a period inscription on the reverse. The EK 1 was awarded 8 November 1918, with the document being signed by the Commander of the 7th Army. The EK2 was awarded 31 March 1918, and is signed by the Commander of the 86th Infantry Division. The 3rd Squadron, 7th Ulan regiment joined the 86th Division in 1917, then serving on the Eastern Front until January 1918, when it was sent West. The 1917 Allied rating of this division was Good, being noted as comprised of young and vigorous men. It entered the line on the Western Front in late February 1918 near Rheims, and remained serving in this sector until the end of the war. It's 1918 Allied rating was Fourth Class..."but was noted as attacking vigorously on two occasions, and on the whole acquitting itself better than other divisions similarly rated".
