Original era manufacture. This is a fairly unusual variant, being a wartime produced example of the standard 1889 pattern Infantry officers sword. All steel pommel & non-folding guard, plain wooden grip with double strand steel wire binding. The spine of the blade is crown W proofed and bears the date of 15. Dent free steel scabbard showing a dark patina and old cleaned corrosion pitting overall. The blade is of fighting rather than dress weight, shows an old sharpening to its edge and areas of scattered graying and spotting. No real corrosion issues to its surface. The guard and pommel show a lightly pitted surface with an even gray patina overall. As swords were soon abandoned as hand weapons due to the realities of trench warfare. These combat quality, issue swords are fairly scarce.
