Original era manufacture. gray trim helmet, size marked 53 and dated 1916. Basically an unissued helmet, likely because of the small size, and perhaps brought to the USA by a returning Doughboy, or, given away during a War Bond Drive. The removable spike is certainly original, however it may be from another helmet, as the patina does not match the rest of the metal fittings. Nice matt gray finish on the wappen, spike base, spine and front visor trim. Both of the visors are loose and need to be resewn, the leather liner is dry and fragile, missing about 1/3 of the total. Clear markings on the interior.
