Original era manufacture. This old helmet makes a very sound basis for a restoration attempt. The body is clean, no evidence of ugly corrosion pitting and staining, with a single shallow dent in the steel at the seveno'clock position on the crown. The original leather liner is relatively intact, there is a substantial surface tear at the front, however the leather itself is soft and pliable and all of the fingers are in place. Original black paint on the inside of the neckguard, and green paint on the underside of the visor, size stamped 54 on the inside edge of the neckguard. The cuirassier pattern removable spike has been replaced with an infantry pattern, and the domed rivets holding the cuirassier elliptical spike base in place are also from a foot helmet but look proper from the topside.Maker marked and dated on the interior of the crown near large hole for the spike base, LACHMAN, BERLIN 16.
