Original era manufacture. This is a complete, untouchedcondition WWI German trench helmet, with its original later type white leather liner, and black leather chinstrap. It has been in our possession for nearly 40 years.Large size helmet shell (the paint is so thick over the makers markings that they are not readable), with nearly 100% of the original feldgrau paint finish remaining intact. Later war white leather lining with original pads, none of the fingers have been broken through, with an old white shoelace (does not fluoresce) usedas the adjusting string. The leather pads are not torn away from the steel liner band, and exhibit normal age and wear. The interior of the helmet displays splashes of mud and dirt which have not been cleaned away, since being acquired during its service in the trenches of the Western Front 100 years ago.Original and properly placed liner rivets, with the heads of each matching perfectly the exterior color of the helmet shell. The black leather chinstrap is full length, it is pliable with no repairs, with brass connecting loops and adjusting buckles. A recent expensive purchase for the collectionrequires the moving on of some old collecting friends...but, we all do that, it's what keeps our interests alive.
