Original era manufacture. Standard pattern M1916 steel helmet, as worn by German troops during the Great War, with an original camouflage 3-color paint finish. All three original rivets are present, The paint finish on each rivet matches the colors of the camouflage on the helmet exterior. However, two of the rivets have been switched out and are in the wrong position, as the thicker of the two, normally found on the rear of the helmet, is now on the left side front. Typically this indicates that the liner has been replaced at some point in time. An original, correct pattern, 3-pad leather liner is in very sound condition, however none of the pad inserts themselves remain. None of the fingers have been pulled through and the leather remains pliable and has not been oiled. Handwritten name on the inside of the rear neckskirt as shown. The maker and size stamp are not readable due to the paint covering, the helmet rim measures 9 inches across at it's widest point. Current replacement cloth chinstrap of black cotton.
