Original era manufacture. The lot consists of three B/W images of crewman of Imperial German Navy Zepplins. In the two larger images (6x8 inches)the tail assembly of a Zepplin can just be seen behind the crewman. In the group photos several of the men have been decorated with the Iron Cross and several wear a Zepplin badge on their arms. The smaller, postcard size image is very interesting as the man is photographed standing before a Zepplin control gondola. On his sleeve he wears an insignia bearing a profile of a Zeppelin and below a radioman's rate of some sort. On his cap tally the word "Luftschiff" can easily be seen. The reverse of the postcard has a note which gives this young man's name and the designation L23, a German Navy airship lost in action during WWI. The note further states of his death in August of 1917. Wonderful content, very rare subject matter.
