Original era manufacture. This untouched helmet was a recent purchase of ours from a friend at the Phoenix Military Show. He told us it came from a house where it had been safely kept since WWI, being a souvenir by a Doughboy ancestor. The helmet is a regulation example as worn by a Prussian infantry officer in those years. The spike is removable so as to allow a plume to be worn. All of the metal fittings are original to the helmet, the visors are securely sewn, both cockades are present and the lining and drape are complete and sound. The metal fittings have an even patina finish over the gilding, they have not been cleaned in recent memory. The sole detraction, and one which only adds to the charm, is that the top of the eagle's head and tops of the wings, are pulled forward a bit. This was caused by the children and grandchildren of the Doughboy plopping the helmet on their heads with the chinstrap caught behind the helmet plate. Just part of the charm now. Minor dings and dents scattered here and there, overall as solid as they come.
