Original era manufacture. See Carter, Vol. III, page 131. Evidently not much is known regarding this rare example however period photography and anecdotal veteran accounts verify its existence. Apparently produced in a variety of blade lengths and sometimes referred to as a Cavalry experimental bayonet. Our examples blade measures just under 9.75 inches, in clean condition, light age staining and a slightly rounded point. No damage to the wood inserts in the grips, with several Imperial proofs visible on the blade. The lock button works properly, with an even steel patina finish overall.Simple sheet steel scabbard, displaying a matching finish and shallow denting along its length.
