Original era manufacture. This most interesting bayonet shows considerable wear and use but has a good story to tell. Produced during WWI by the firm of Gebr. Heller of Marienthal, with the typical issue markings on the spine. After the war this bayonet was reissued to the Weimar forces, the Imperial markings were partially obliterated on the blade spine and pommel, with an early style waffenamt G8 stamped onto the end of the flashguard. The date 1920 appears on the guard obverse, and on the reverse, a unit marking of 1./J.B.8.56. Mix of blue and dark steel patina to the blade, guard and pommel, decent wood grips showing typical marring and wear from use. Steel scabbard is also Weimar marked, W.u.K. on its reverse with another unit number below. There is some scattered surface denting and considerable freckling to the surface from old cleaned corrosion.
