Original era manufacture. S84/98 pattern bayonet with a sawback edge. The blade appears to have had a plated finish at one time, now presenting a rather speckled look with scattered surface corrosion. Crown proof on the spine just forward of the guard. Evidence of old sharpening to the cutting edge, and the points has been rounded a bit.Steel patina finish to the guard and pommel, with scattered surface corrosion. Sound original wooden grips. When this bayonet came to us it was without a scabbard. We dug through our box of spares and found this very clean leather bodied scabbard which fits the blade perfectly. One of the souvenirs brought home from WWII by a US Army officer who served with the 282nd Combat Engineers.
