Original era  manufacture. A very fine example of the classic WWI German butcher blade bayonet, S98/05. Made by Fichtel & Sachs, with a Bavarian proof (L) and 17 date on the spine.The blade is bright and clean with no corrosion issues or blade nicks; just some light scratching to the blade surfaces, and runner wear. Bright steel patina finish to the guard and pommel with some surface speckling, but no deep pitting. Sound, original finish wooden grips displaying some minor denting and marring from service use and time.Dent free original steel scabbard with a mix of blue and steel patina finish, with the blade fitting the scabbard properly. Unit marked on the reverse of the scabbard PwB, possibly Pioneer Werkstatt Brigade.
