Original era manufacture. German brass shell, Karlsruhe 1917 made into a Belgian Hat ashtray. Once part of the Jane A. Kimball Trench Art Collection. This exact item can be seen on page 172, figure 5.49 (right) in her book, "Trench Art, An Illustrated History".
