Original era manufacture. This is an interesting helmet, and the best part is that it comes with an original chinstrap and cockades.Blackpressed felt body with a black lacquer exterior, zinc spike base with four fire gilt stars, brass spike base with pearl ring, removable zinc spike, which when removed from the base reveals a bright gilt finish remaining. The front and rear visors are of leather, securing stitched to the body, with the front visor trimmed in brass, and a gilded brass rear spine. The chinscalechinstrap is intact, missing only the thin leather securing strap on the inside (the small securing buckle is present), the original fire gilt finish is now long gone from the zinc plates. Gilded brass chinstrap bosses, one on each side, with officer pattern, multi-piece construction Prussian and National Kokarden.Enlisted pattern wappen (no cut-outs in the crown detail) of gilded brasswith polished highlights. The wappen is secured to the body of the helmet with two leather wedges, there is no evidence of any other wappen beingmounted to the helmet in the past, no extra holes in the body. The tan leather liner is complete, pliable, exhibiting only light surface staining from age.The light green silk drape is basically intact, with some fraying through the gold printed makers mark.Overall the helmet presentsa very honest, untouched condition, displaying only handling wear over the past 100 years. Purchased from an older gentleman who was an active collector back in the 1970's & 80's.
