Original era manufacture. A wartime production Prussian officers pickelhaube with its original feldgrau cloth cover. The spike, base, rear spine, visor trimand chinscales are made of zinc, with traces of the original gilt finish remaining. Gilded brass spike base stars, front wappen and side bosses. Original officer pattern Prussian, and National, kokarden.Wide tan leather sweatband, with silk drape interior, which shows damage from age. The helmet leather is of an inferior quality, yet retains a nice gloss to the surface. The lack of adequate leather supplies during the early month's of WWI, was one of the reasons the variety of ersatz pickelhaubes, in metal and felt were produced. Both the front and rear visors are securely sewn to the helmet body. The removable spike top is bent slightly to one side, and the right rear portion of the helmet is pressed inwards from improper storage. Nice quality officers type pickelhaube cover in cotton, with fibre tabs front and rear, to fit under the visors. Maker marking on the front tab, no holes or tears, just some black patent leather residue on the inside of the cover. Likely this set has been together since 1918.
