German WWI / WWII M1916 Steel Helmet, Size 68 Shell

Original era manufacture. This is an interesting helmet, part of a old collection we purchased last January up in Payson Arizona.Standard WWI M1916 steel helmet, size marked 68 (can't make out the maker code), with a grayish-blue paint finish over the original factory paint. On the left side of the helmet is a hand painted disc, with a red border, white center section and a square set black swastika. The painting is nicely done, and would indicate use by early NSDAP units in the 1920's. Now when this was done is anyone's guess, the paint is old, the wear and age is commensurate with the remainder of the helmet. The paint does not glow under a UV light, and painted helmets like this did occur. The liner is a WWII pattern, and has been installed by a previous owner, none of the rivets have a slot washer, and one of them is an incorrect pattern. The helmet shell and paint show honest age and wear.
