Original era manufacture. Thick green canvas web strap and on each end a heavy-duty cast steel snaphook, cast steel adjusting buckle, with a single steel support hook on one end. About 30 years ago we were fortunate to be offered to purchase a large group of original WWII German ammunition cans and accessories for the MG-13 & MG-34 weapons. These had been sold surplus on the open market by Portugal who in turn had received them under contract from Germany in 1944. Amongst the pile of things we purchased were a number of these straps, some with waffenamt proofs stamped into the shoulder yokes of the snaphooks, however most were unmarked. The green canvas webbing is of a very high quality, frankly better than most German webbing of the era, with some current thinking being that these were refurbished by Norway for their own use postwar. Whatever the case, these will allow the soldier to carry two 250 round ammunition cans (remember the little indentation in the middle of the transport handle?), giving him support with the strap passing over his neck, and stabilized by the hook slipping under the bottom of his waistbelt. Excellent condition, ready for display.
