Original era manufacture. An early war example made of light color feldgrau wool of good quality, with an original sewn, white on green, eagle at top. The most interesting aspect of the hat, is the black-white waffenfarbe piping at the front of the hat, forming an inverted V over the original sewn cockade. The white portion of the soutache appears as evenly spaced chevrons, woven through the black base color. I have seen in the past Pioneer troop battalion numbers woven into shoulder straps which were outlined in white, so as to made them stand out against the base color. Perhaps this was the intention here, in any case, it appears proper and period done.Gray cotton lining which is size marked 57, and displays the name of a Munich hat maker. No moth issues to report, just a nice even color throughout, and a very sound example overall.
