Original period manufacture. Nice quality officers visor in doeskin wool with white wool piping and dark green wool band. Aluminum eagle and wreath with a silver double strand chinstrap. Pale gray silk lining with the makers logo visible through the fragments of the sweatshield. Wide, pale gray leather sweatband in sound condition, however the stitching towards the front of the band has opened up. On the underside of the sweatband the orignal owner stamped his name and unit information; Caprun 12./J.R.119. The hat is very sound, has a nice saddle shape to the top with a few scattered and very minor moth nips to the surface of the wool, no holes that we could see. IR 119 formed part of the 25th Infantry Division which was converted to Panzer-Grenadier status in the Fall of 1940. It served with Army Group Center on the Eastern Front and fought against the American advance against Metz in late 1944. It ended the war north of Berlin with many of its survivors escaping to the British and American forces.
