German WWII Army M1942 Tropical Pith Helmet

Original era manufacture. A sound example of the second pattern helmet of pressed felt rather than canvas covered cork. The olive colored felt body is very sound, no tears or breaks. The thin leather chinstrap is intact, with some minor scuffing and fraying to the leather edge binding which exposes the wire stiffener in a few spots. Complete interior with a leather sweatband that is size marked and dated, 57 1942, on the underside. At some point the tri-color shield was removed and an additional eagle shield was installed. Many examples of this helmet were found in storage during the late 1950's, and a number were imported into the United States bearing the inkstamp, Made in Germany. This example is not stamped.
