German WWII Checkpoint Sign, Souvenir The Hague Netherlands

Original era manufacture. This is the real deal. We purchased this sign many years ago from our friend Doc Weber, who as a young boy, removed this from the side of a building in the Hague Netherlands in May of 1945. We had Doc write this on the reverse of the sign along with his name. I have known Doc Weber for over 40 years, he served for a time in the Dutch Commandos and was a Pediatrician here in Arizona for many years. This sign was on display for in our store in Mesa until we closed up shop in 2008. The sign measures roughly 10x39 inches and is made entirely of wood with a painted finish. One of the more amusing stories Doc told us was regarding a mountain of surrendered German Para helmets from which he took only one. I would love to have seen a picture of that pile...
